Arranging a Funeral
There are no rules when it comes to celebrating the life of a loved one. Over the years, we have introduced a range of initiatives to allow families to celebrate the life of their loved one in more creative and personal ways. Our staff can provide guidance and advice on your loved one’s celebration, and can assist with ideas on how to tailor the service to include special and personal touches, such as:
- Photographs of your loved one during their life
- Your loved ones’s favourite songs
- Symbols of their life, such as gardening/ flowers, sporting memorabilia, or fishing and other items reflecting their hobbies and interests
- Placing personal items inside the coffin such as photos, letters or drawings
Services can also involve prayers and hymns, or civil rituals, such as the release of doves, butterflies or balloons, the lighting of candles, or a bugler playing The Last Post as part of an RSL Service. These are all the things that make a service individual and give it a deeper meaning.
One of the most difficult aspects to planning a funeral service is knowing where to begin. There are many decisions to be made when arranging a funeral, for example;
- Will it be burial or cremation service?
- What type of coffin or casket would you prefer?
- Where should the funeral service be held? Church or Crematorium?
- If a burial, will there be attendance at the graveside after the Church Service?
- Should the service be religious or non- religious or a mixture of both?
- Are there certain religious/ cultural customs to be followed?
- Are there any special readings, biblical passages or musical selections you prefer?
- Do you wish to involve a specific organization or club in the service?
- Do you wish to have your loved one buried in particular clothing or jewellery?
- Would you like refreshments at the Church or Cemetery following the service?
